We never should’ve Outsourced our Technology, Period!
I recently disengaged from an Indian-based Consulting Firm that has the Financial Industry Sector sewn up. They are not better than U.S. Citizens, yet, during the last 15+ years they have created an environment all their own; designed specifically for “them.” Aside from holding a Bachelor’s Degree, they are thoroughly trained from within so they can walk into any company “knowing” the system, environment and infrastructure, day-one. It’s an inside-playbook that isn’t provided to American employees, and when directives change, we are the last to know. I can speak about this because I’ve witnessed it first-hand. They write status reports for their Indian colleagues, but purposely withhold vital information to their other counterparts. This is why Americans appear to be failing in the Corporate IT Landscape. “Ambiguity” is the flavor of the ever-changing implementation process, and “we’ll get back to you” is the usual response.
If American Corporations spent 1/2 as much time training potential talented individuals as it does Outsourcing, they would fair better at retaining qualified employees. In the meantime, job-security is no more.
