America anesthetized killing

I wanted to share His words with you about the truth of gun violence in America…

“Let’s face it folks, we decent folks, now in a horribly small minority, have lost the battle for gun safety. The far greater majority of our fellow citizens, ignorant, apathetic, and barbaric to a fault, have prevailed.

Once we decided at Sandy Hook that the right to bear arms was more important than the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness of twenty-six elementary school children and their teachers, the battle for sane regulation of guns was over. All that was left was to write an account of the idiocy, the barbarity, the apathy, and the carnage: Bury My Heart at Sandy Hook.

Many of the victims we have mourned over have, in fact, been the perpetrators of their own undoing. Every shooting victim of voting age probably voted for the very gutless, NRA-financed politicians that enabled the carnage in the first place.

These victims swallowed greedily the propaganda of guns don’t kill people and the solution is good guys with guns and the 2nd Amendment gives a citizen an inalienable right to bear arms. And if that wasn’t enough, these victims were falling for the lies about big government and higher taxes. So that when politicians pandered to them with this same bullshit these victims were ripe for the picking. It is safe to say that these victims weren’t murdered; in truth they committed suicide. To paraphrase Walt Kelly’s Pogo: they met the enemy and he was them.

“There is no organized effective movement for gun control in this country. What exists is piecemeal, ineffective, uncoordinated, too little, too late.”

We are the only country on the face of the Earth that allows the lax to the point of being almost non-existent laws we have regulating guns. That’s because this is what the far greater majority of (we) apathetic, ignorant, and barbaric citizens want. And the rest of us have had no choice but to cave into their demands and far greater numerical superiority. It’s over; it’s done.

We have lost our ability to care, to empathize. We just don’t give a shit. We erroneously believe that, just because the hole is in the other end of the boat we are all in, we have nothing to worry about.

Countless studies have shown we are at far greater risk of death by gunshot than just about any other method. I was safer in the jungles of Viet Nam than I am on the streets of America.

“There will be No Change in how we regulate guns — Now or at any future moment.”

We’re not up to the task of doing a damn thing about it. We are incapable of handling the truth of what must be done. British poet WH Auden said it best: “We would rather be ruined than changed. We would rather die in our dread than climb the cross of the moment and let our illusions die.

Or this: “The problem isn’t with Mr. Charlie. The problem is what we have allowed Mr. Charlie to do to our minds, hearts, and souls.”

My interpretations:

Q: Where IS our moral compass in all of this?

The opinions of those in power that recklessly suggest “we” should do (XYZ) to people who do not look like us; “Shoot ‘em,” (only in the panhandle). “Throw Them OUT,” (I’ll pay your legal/medical bills). “I can shoot someone on 5th avenue and nothing would happen,” (exaggerated and implied White Privilege). Words that give permission (and the right), to do whatever you like to anyone who doesn’t look like (You)…

It’s Dangerous — And so disingenuous. That suddenly, on a subconscious level, people are committing mass-murder on a daily basis as their God-Given Right to, “Take Their Country Back!”

There have been 297 mass-shootings in 2019 — That’s 1.2 shootings per day! Let that sink in…

We should be ashamed of ourselves, especially when a little known law called “Stand your Ground” meant you could murder in the name of “self-defense” and be justified! Once it was realized that you can ‘Stand Your Ground,’ people began “Exercising Their (2nd Amendment) Right” to shoot someone; crossing the boundary from, “if” I could, to an endorsement of, “I Can,” thus, taking the law into their own hands.

Loud music should not cause anyone to needlessly die. Policing people in public, when they are Not on your property, has become a travesty.

The unconscious motive of implicit bias has finally become conscious and deliberate.

Then we waste time analyzing the “why,” then say, “What if (they) never had access to guns and/or assault-style rifles in the first place…?” Then, nothing changes.

This is America in the 21st Century!

Update:
Walmart finally agreed to stop selling handguns and certain types of Ammo — A first step in the right direction!
